     MIDDLE EAST PERSPECTIVE

Speaking Jay Bushinsky and Yitzhak Noy
May 6, 2009

Audio Clip:

This week's Middle East perspective focuses on the historic visit to Israel of Pope Benedict XVI which is due to begin May 11 and ends May 15.  Panelist Sergio Minerbi, a veteran Israeli diplomat and expert in the Vatican who now serves as an Italian radio correspondent in Jerusalem says some of the pontiff's top advisers opposed the trip.  Fellow-panelist Yitzhak Noy believes the Pope's personal background as a German who was caught up in the Nazi hysteria was a major factor in his decision to undertake the journey.
