SARAH HONIG Print E-mail

Sarah Honig grew up both in Israel and the US, is bilingual and thoroughly at home in both environments and cultures. She attended New York's famed High School of Music and Art and Tel Aviv University, where she completed both her undergraduate and graduate work.

While still a young student - in April 1968 - she started work as a reporter for the Jerusalem Post. Initially she covered such beats as municipal affairs and education but soon became the Post's unofficial 'Sovietologist,' who due to unique security clearance, was made privy to exclusive information from Israeli intelligence sources regarding the burgeoning struggle for free aliya from the USSR. From the late 1960s and into the 1980s much of what was publicized worldwide on Soviet Jewry, first saw light in her stories on the Jerusalem Post's pages.

From the mid-1970s she began doing political coverage and soon did the political beat simultaneously both for the Jerusalem Post and the (now defunct) Histadrut Labor Federation daily Davar, an arrangement which was in place for nearly a decade. She also produced a wide array of news and magazine features.

From the early 1980s she became the Post's senior political correspondent. During the 1990s she also contributed a weekly column Insider Dealings on the political in-and-outs and elaborate machinations of Israel's domestic politics, as well as their ramifications on the international arena. For a decade, between 1991-2001, she became the Post's political analyst, who almost daily provided guides to the perplexed on what lay behind the often convoluted maneuvers of Israeli party politics and policy-making and what many of the political moves really meant.

In 1999 she launched her personal weekly column on current affairs, Another Tack, which is still featured weekly in the Post's Upfront Weekend Magazine. Additionally, she has been since 2003 a senior editorial writer, and continues to contribute many of the Jerusalem Post's daily editorial articles.
