The Palestinian media's low-keyed coverage of Maj. Nader Malik Hasan's deadly rampage in Ft. Hood, Tx, is discussed on this week's "Middle East Perspective" by Jamil Hamad of Time. Speaking from the West Bank city of Bethlehem, Hamad said the story did not evoke comment or analysis. The panel, moderated by Jay Bushinsky of CBS Radio and with Ruth Sinai, a veteran Israeli journalist and Yitzhak Noy of Israel Radio, exchanged views on Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' intention to step down, Turkey's tilt toward Iran and critical attitude toward Israel were explained by Elif Ural of CNN-Turk. Contacted live in Istanbul, she attributed these developments to a longstanding tendency on Turkey's part to nurture cordial relations with the Arab states and lucrative economic deals with Iran.
